Change

My previous pastorate rented space to an active, for profit day care. When I arrived relations were strained. I worked on joint community programs like an Easter Bunny Breakfast, a Nativity learning activity in our Christmas decorated sanctuary, weekly book reading by church members, and coffee and rolls during winter for parents dropping off children (that the staff enjoyed as well!). Throughout my time we increased cooperation, communication, the sharing of equipment and expanded building use benefiting both the congregation and the day care along with the community. The partnership has continued in the time since I left and expanded.

Where God is Calling Me

I believe God is calling me to service. Sometimes that is in a church, sometimes behind a retail service counter, sometimes as a volunteer at non-profit. Rather than follow my passion, I seek to bring Christ’s passion wherever I can be of service, “taking, as he did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it”. My time away from church leadership has been used by God to develop my qualities as a trusted servant. As a Geek Squad agent I guide folks through living in our technology labyrinth. As a volunteer staff member at a non-profit, ComputerCorps, I help recycle struggling spirits of those performing community service, teens, the unemployed, the retired, mentally and emotionally challenged as we recycle computers.

A Moment of Success and Fulfillment

I remember feeling connected to God, church, and stranger at the first baptism at one of our first contemporary worship services in my previous pastorate. We gathered in the fellowship hall, where community has been nurtured for generations, to welcome folks into the body of Christ and the community of the church during worship. The baptism bowl was filled by individuals mixing their unique contribution into one common vessel and rested on a quilt of fabric made by church members. Friends and now brothers and sisters surrounded those joining on all sides as we shared the ancient words that hold our hearts today and forever in God’s gracious love. Togetherness and unity with each other, our community, tradition, and God was spoken, acted, and lived that day.
